Modeling in Korea: Sanne’s Experience Working in Seoul
Working abroad as a model was always something I wanted to experience, and Seoul quickly became one of the most special places I’ve worked. From busy shooting days to meeting amazing creatives, modeling in Korea taught me so much, both professionally and personally.
Why Did You Decide to Go to Korea as a Model?
It’s actually quite a funny story. I was on stay in Turkey and while being there I became really good friends with another model who told me all about Korea. Obviously we were seen together on social media, and that’s how I got in contact with her agent in Seoul, Korea.
I got a call, and the same day I knew they wanted me to work there. Because of the positive stories from my friend, I really wanted to experience working in Korea myself.
What Were Your Expectations Before Modeling in Korea?
My expectations were good. Basically, my friend told me I would work every day and that the Asian market would be a great fit for me. I still tried to stay realistic since it was a new market for me. At that point, I would already have been happy with two working days a week.
But she was right, because I really did start working every day from the moment I arrived. Funny thing is, I expected to see a lot of the city, but with the busy schedule I mostly saw all the studios in town, haha. I have to say, I never felt as safe as a model in a new place like Seoul. Everyone was so kind, and the food there is amazing. I even became friends with a few photographers and stylists and had dinners and coffee dates with them. I really felt appreciated during the workdays as well.
One thing that will always stay with me is the fact that I really hoped to get my first magazine shoot in Korea. In my second week, it actually happened. That’s why I really believe manifesting can be such an amazing thing within the modeling industry. It’s such a creative and limitless world, once you set your goals, so much is possible.
What Is the Biggest Lesson You Learned While Working Abroad?
This might sound weird, but the biggest thing I learned is how much your attitude impacts your workflow.
I had so many jobs in Korea because brands talked about me to other brands, photographers recommended me to managers, and people liked working with me because I was nice to work with and got the job done. There are so many pretty faces in the industry, and even though you work with a new team every day, it’s very common to work with the same makeup artists, stylists, and photographers again. So always be kind and always try to do your best..
Make every shoot count, for yourself and for the team. 🤍
