What does “on stay” mean as a model?
Being on stay as a model means living and working abroad for a certain period of time. During this stay, you are based in another country, signed with a local agency, attending castings, building your international network and gaining experience in a new market. It’s an exciting part of a modeling career and often a big personal and professional step.
My first on stay abroad: Australia
Hi, I’m Nynke. I’m 22 years old and I’ve been working as a model for seven years. I recently graduated and decided that this was the perfect moment to fully focus on my modeling career. This is my first time being on stay abroad and I immediately chose the other side of the world, haha!
Right now, I’m based in Sydney, where the sun is almost always shining and the energy is contagious. I’m having such a great time here. The work is fun, the people are kind and passionate, and everything feels very open and welcoming. Making friends comes naturally, especially with such a big Dutch community around.
Australia itself is absolutely beautiful. Recently, I visited Byron Bay, a small surf town on the east coast. Early sunrises, dolphins in the ocean and really good coffee made it a very special experience, one of those moments that make you stop and appreciate where you are.
Working on the other side of the world can be exciting, but also a little overwhelming at times. I’m signed with Kult Australia, and they’ve been incredibly kind and supportive from the start. At the same time, having the support of VDM back home means everything to me. I speak with Ruby every week to share my experiences and talk through anything I run into, which gives me a lot of trust and a strong feeling of support, even from the other side of the world.
This experience allows me to grow, gain independence and focus on my work in a new environment. I’m excited to see where this journey will take me next <3.
